The Gunners were apparently leading the race to sign the 30-year-old Juventus striker on Thursday morning as his agent, Alessandro Lucci, claimed that he was  only waiting to hear back from Arsene Wenger regarding the terms he would be willing to offer.

But whilst the Premier League outfit are still in with a good chance of landing the Montenegrin international, sources in Spain have it on good authority that Valencia are heavily interested in acquiring his services and could look to move to scupper Arsenal’s chances at bringing him on board.

Arsenal are desperate to add another forward into the mix after it emerged that Theo Walcott would miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

They already came close to losing out on his signature earlier in the week, but a proposed swap deal with fellow Serie A side Inter Milan fell through.

Vucinic is also keen to head elsewhere after telling the Turin based club that he is looking to leave before Friday’s transfer deadline.
