Arsenal are lining up a surprise late move for AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong according to Sports Direct News.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is short of midfield options with Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere both out injured though it’s a lack of much needed steel, exacerbated by the four match ban handed to Mathieu Flamini for his red card at St Mary’s, that will lead the Frenchman to target the Dutch ‘enforcer’.

AC Milan have struggled for form and apparently the former Man City man is unsettled at the San Siro but is still a regular at the Italian giants and as such it seems unlikely that they could consider allowing a crucial player to leave on a loan switch.

Liverpool have also set their sights on Nigel de Jong, seen by Brendan Rodgers as a replacement for injured Brazilian Lucas Leiva.

Wenger may well hope to convert any potential loan deal into a permanent switch and knowing that de Jong is an experienced Premier League performer will be a motivating factor in any push to capture the 29 year old.
