The French international has fallen behind Aleksandar Kolarov in the Etihad Stadium pecking order and could perhaps be tempted by a fresh challenge and Rodgers is ready to offer £14m for the former Arsenal man.
Such a move would presumably only become a realistic goal if Liverpool were to secure a top four finish, which seems very much within the Merseyside club’s grasp.
Clichy moved to Man City in July 2011 and in his first two seasons he was the regular in the left-back role but thus far this season has started just 11 of the club’s 24 Premier League fixtures.
Liverpool have found the left-back area something of a ‘problem-area’ with Spaniard Jose Enrique being sidelined with injury and loaned in Frenchman Aly Cissokho failing to impress.
Man City are likely to trim their squad in the summer in order to better fit with UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines and are also said to be keen on Sevilla youngster Alberto Moreno.
PSG are also pursuing Clichy, who is said to be on wages of around £90k a week.
