The Premier League Stars With The Best Goal Contribution Featuring Liverpool’s ‘SAS’ And Arsenal Hit-Man

The players from the English top flight that have the scored the highest percentage of their team’s goals.

Being a ‘one man team’ is a criticism often aimed at football clubs and in the Premier League it is no different, be that Gareth Bale at Tottenham Hotspur last season or Luis Suarez at Liverpool this time around.

Yet having one star to rely on to score the goals is not necessarily a bad thing – of course two is even better.

So here are the 10 stars from the English top tier that have scored the highest percentage of their team’s goals in 2013/14.

10. Yaya Toure – Manchester City

Team goals: 68.

Individual goals: 12.

Percentage: 18%.

The £30m arrival of Fernandinho has allowed the Ivory Coast international to venture forwards more often and Toure is now recognised as one of the finest box-to-box midfielders in the world.

9. Eden Hazard – Chelsea

Team goals: 44.

Individual goals: 9.

Percentage: 20%.

With the Blues’ strike force lacking potency in the box, the west London side have had to look to their plethora of attacking midfielders to help find the net and the Belgian has stepped up with some fine performances.

8. Olivier Giroud – Arsenal

Team goals: 47.

Individual goals: 10.

Percentage: 21%.

It’s been a vast improvement for the Frenchman this season, as the trust of Arsene Wenger has paid dividends and Giroud looks like a genuine top-class striker.

7. Sergio Aguero – Manchester City

Team goals: 68.

Individual goals: 15.

Percentage: 22%.

With City scoring so many currently it’s hardly surprising to see another of their players on the list and despite being injured for much of the campaign, Aguero has still been hugely influential.

6. Wayne Rooney – Manchester United

Team goals: 39.

Individual goals: 9.

Percentage: 23%.

This shows just how important the England international is to the Red Devils and one of David Moyes’ best moves was to keep the forward at Old Trafford.

4=. Romelu Lukaku – Everton

Team goals: 37.

Individual goals: 9.

Percentage: 24%.

It’s been another great year for the 20-year-old whilst out on-loan from Stamford Bridge, as after scoring 17 league goals for West Bromwich Albion last term Lukaku is once again finding the net for the Toffees.

4=. Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool

Team goals: 58.

Individual goals: 14.

Percentage: 24%.

What a year it’s been for the Englishman, after putting his Blues hell behind him and hitting the ground running at Anfield with bagfuls of goals alongside a lethal strike partner.

3. Jay Rodriguez – Southampton

Team goals: 34.

Individual goals: 10.

Percentage: 29%.

The Saints have looked in fine form this term and that has been largely thanks to a core group of Englishmen – Rodruguez, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana – and all three have decent cases to be going to the 2014 World Cup.

2. Loic Remy – Newcastle United

Team goals: 32.

Individual goals: 11.

Percentage: 34%.

Joe Kinnear completed two pieces of business as Newcastle director of football, bringing Luuk De Jong and Remy in on-loan and whilst the Dutchman is unproven as yet, Remy has been a revelation for the Magpies.

1. Luis Suarez – Liverpool

Team goals: 58.

Individual goals: 23.

Percentage: 40%.

It’s little surprise who tops this list as the Uruguayan has been in sensational form for the Reds and could well be the catalyst that fires the Merseysiders to the Champions League for the first time since 2009.
