Chelsea Target World-Class Striking Trio as Jose Mourinho Pursues Much Needed Prolific Attacking Spearhead

Stamford Bridge side earmark moves for top notch goal machines.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho seemingly opted to keep faith with the striking options in his armoury for the remainder of the current campaign as he instead sought to strengthen other areas of his squad in January, however The Sun claim that the Stamford Bridge side have drawn up a three-man summer wish-list to resolve the West London club’s ‘problem-area’.

Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o have scored a combined total of 11 goals from their collective 41 Premier League appearances, that represents just a quarter of the club’s total top tier goal tally.

Therefore it’s no surprise that Mourinho would look to address this issue by targeting three world-class strikers who would all be top notch additions who would more ably lead the Chelsea attack.

Bayern Munich forward Mario Mandzukic is perhaps the most cost-effective option of the three named by this source and the Serbian international could well be considering his options given that Robert Lewandowski is set to move to the Allianz Arena in the summer.

The Borussia Dortmund goal machine’s presence will almost certainly lead to Mandzukic playing a lesser role at the Bavarian club and a move to Chelsea would surely tempt the 27 year old.

Mandzukic has been hugely successful since moving from Wolfsburg to Bayern Munich 18 months ago, netting 35 goals in 67 appearances in all competitions.

Atletico Madrid goal machine Diego Costa was heavily linked with interest from Chelsea throughout the January transfer window and though Vicente Calderon boss Diego Simeone manfully held onto the in-form Brazilian forward last month he may struggle to do so in the summer.

Costa’s goals have been a pivotal part of the club’s genuine push for a La Liga title and have also helped the Spanish capital side to a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League but one gets the impression that Atletico Madrid may once again cash-in on one of their star-turns as they have done many times in the recent past.

The likes of Sergio Aguero, Fernando Torres and David de Gea have all left Atletico for a move to the Premier League and you wouldn’t bet against Costa following suit.

PSG star Edinson Cavani is said to be ‘unsettled’ at the Parc des Princes though his 20 goals in all competitions tell a different story.

Chelsea’s interest in the 26 year old Uruguayan would have to be accompanied by an offer well in excess of £50m to persuade the Ligue 1 side to sell as the French side would have no financial need to offload a player they only signed last summer.

The powerful forward would perhaps be an ideal marksman to suit the overly physical nature of the English top tier and perhaps Cavani would be keen on following national team colleague Luis Suarez to the Premier League but it will take a British transfer record fee for Jose Mourinho to have any chance of bringing in the former Napoli man.
