Former Juventus legend linked with Elland Road switch.
Championship side Leeds United are reportedly planning a stunning move to sign Italian veteran Alessandro Del Piero according to Sports Direct News.
Prospective owner Massimo Cellino wants to bring in the 39 year old striker as a ‘Marquee’ signing this summer and is ready to offer the 39 year old a player/coach role that he hopes will tempt the forward to leave Aussie side Sydney FC for a fresh challenge in the English top tier.
It’s a move that could well excite Leeds United fans though would clearly not be a long term acquisition given the player’s age.
Del Piero moved to the A-League back in September 2012 and will see his two year deal come to a close at the end of the current campaign, and could therefore cash in with a move to Elland Road.
The former Juventus man has netted 21 goals in 38 games since moving to Sydney and is certainly still fit and able to make an impact in the Championship for a season or perhaps even two and clearly such a move could be very lucrative in merchandising terms.
Prior to his move to Australia Del Piero racked up 290 goals in 705 appearances for Turin giants Juventus.
