Liverpool 5-1 Arsenal: Player Ratings With Per Mertesacker and Mikel Arteta Leading the Way With Horror Shows

Suicidal defending leads to Emirates Stadium side being demolished at Anfield.

Arsene Wenger’s side disintegrated in the opening 20 minutes of this encounter and unsurprisingly the Arsenal manager’s charges scored very lowly in our player ratings.

Wojciech Szczesny – 5

Never looked comfortable though did pull off a wonderful save from a Luis Suarez free-kick.

Nacho Monreal – 5

Offered little going forward and was repeatedly found wanting at the back.

Per Mertesacker – 3

Headless chicken style display from the usually reliable German.

Laurent Koscielny – 5

Had a decent second half but was shocking in the first 45 minutes.

Bacary Sagna – 6

Of the entire back-four the Frenchman was perhaps the only member who didn’t completely ‘lose it’

Mikel Arteta – 4

Spaniard’s role was to offer his defence some support, something Arteta steadfastly failed to do.

Jack Wilshere – 6

Attempted to get his side into gear on a number of occasions, showed heart but lost the ball on a number of occasions.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 5

Very average display though his driving run did win the Gunners a consolation penalty.

Santi Cazorla – 4

Didn’t track back, showed little character, a real disappointment.

Mesut Ozil – 5

German was found wanting far too often, too many misplaced passes and very ineffective in the final third.

Olivier Giroud – 4

Really poor, the Frenchman barely got anything right.

Subs

Tomas Rosicky – 6

Tried to get Arsenal running after coming on for the last half an hour.

Kieran Gibbs – 6

Did little but was more reliable than Monreal

Lukas Podolski – 4

Came on and literally did nothing.
