The 24 year old England man left West London for Anfield back in January 2013, a £12m deal that has proved to be something of a bargain buy for the Merseyside club.
Sturridge was unhappy with his limited role in Chelsea’s first team and has enjoyed a successful first year at Liverpool, netting 29 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions.
Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in a prolific forward to spearhead his Blues attack and having also been linked with Sturridge’s strike-partner Luis Suarez as well as La Liga goal machine Diego Costa but now appears to be switching focus to the club’s former forward.
Liverpool would be loathed to lose Sturridge and the marksman is clearly enjoying life at the club but if Brendan Rodgers fails to secure a top four finish then perhaps the striker would consider a move back to Chelsea.
The Birmingham born ace will certainly set Chelsea back far more than the £12m Liverpool paid for his services a year ago.
Rodgers may also struggle to keep hold of Suarez if a Champions League berth is not secured though as present Liverpool are certainly on course for a top four finish and are still harbouring hopes of a genuine Premier League title push.
