The 26 year old England man has no shortage of admirers following a good run of form and could well find his way into Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup finals squad, and a move to either White Hart Lane or Goodison Park could well tempt the former Man City man.
White Hart Lane boss Tim Sherwood may see Johnson, who can play on either flank, as an ideal replacement for Gareth Bale and this source believes a £9m bid could be considered by the Black Cats.
Johnson has scored nine goals in all competitions this season and is the club’s leading assist maker to boot and as such one would have imagined Sunderland boss Gus Poyet would not be open to offers for the attacker.
Sunderland are flirting with danger and are well and truly in fighting a relegation battle and Johnson may feel he deserves to be playing for a side at the other end of the table.
Should either Tottenham or Everton secure a top four finish then a move for Johnson becomes all the more possible.
