Arsenal have been linked with an astonishing move to sign Chelsea centre-back John Terry.

Sports Direct News claim that the North London club has been earmarked as a summer target by Arsene Wenger who wants the 33 year old to act as a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgian international has become something of a bit-part player with Wenger opting to use Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker as his first choice central defensive pairing and now soon to be free agent Terry has been identified as a possible addition to the Emirates Stadium ranks.

Such a move would be a huge shock to say the least, not least as Terry would be joining Chelsea’s arch rivals and clearly would in theory find himself acting as a back-up to the aforementioned first choice Gunners stars, so one wonders if the Stamford Bridge skipper would be willing to consider such a switch.

Terry has enjoyed a new lease of life under Jose Mourinho, starting 24 of the club’s 26 Premier League fixtures but with no new deal on the table and Chelsea signing French teenager Kurt Zouma, and with David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic all available as potential centre-back options, the Blues captain could well be set for an emotional exit at the end of the current campaign.

John Terry is into his 16th season at Chelsea and has made a total of 605 appearances for the West London club.
