The 28 year old has suffered with average form and injuries this season, restricting the forward to just three Premier League starts, and quotes attributed to Podolski suggest that he feels that had circumstances been different he may still be at Bayern Munich.
“I believe that if Jupp Heynckes had arrived one or two weeks earlier in 2009, I would probably still be at Bayern now,” Podolski said.
“He was desperate to keep me. From a purely sporting perspective, returning to Cologne was certainly not very helpful.”
Indeed Podolski elected to re-sign for Koln, and despite netting 18 goals in his last season at the club he failed to prevent the club from suffering relegation which in turn led to his move to Arsenal in the summer of 2012.
Podolski is now very much a fan favourite at Arsenal and appears to have no desire to leave the North London club but will hope to become more of a first team regular though in order to do so the experienced German international must first prove his fitness and form are worthy of such a reward.
