David de Gea

The Spaniard is the undisputed No.1 at Old Trafford but looks a bit nervy at the moment. The young stopper arguably could have done more to prevent Fulham’s shock equaliser at the weekend.

Chris Smalling

Rafael started at the weekend and bombed down the right flank, contributing to United’s 81 crosses. But David Moyes is likely to opt for the more defensively sound Smalling at the Emirates Stadium.

Phil Jones

The England international missed out on Sunday due to injury, but should be available for this clash and, with Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand injured, will go straight back into the starting XI.

Nemanja Vidic

The captain announced this would be his last season at United last week and followed that up with a woeful display against Fulham, yet should retain his spot given the lack of alternatives available to Moyes.

Patrice Evra

Has been one of the English champions’ best players this term and combines defensive and attacking responsibilities well. A definite starter.

Darren Fletcher

The Scot will face his biggest test since returning from a lengthy lay-off, with Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla likely to be deployed in attacking midfield roles for United.

Michael Carrick

Scored his side’s second at the weekend, but was caught out in the buildup to a late Darren Bent equaliser – yet will remain in the side due to Tom Cleverley and Maroaune Fellaini’s fitness concerns.

Juan Mata

Looked lost on the right on Sunday but needs to adapt to accommodate other United stars and will have the opportunity to switch roles during the game. Could be the key to unlocking Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney

Moyes has started to utilise the 28-year-old in a slightly deeper role, which may be no bad thing in a game of this stature. Rooney kept running all day against Fulham but was guilty of losing Sidwell for the Cottagers’ opener.

Adnan Januzaj

Started on the bench again at the weekend, but was the best player once more when coming on in the second and has to be given a starting place.

Robin van Persie

The Dutchman has enjoyed success against his former side and now has 10 goals in 13 league starts in 2013/14, meaning van Persie could be the key to any success in this match.
