Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United Player Ratings: Per Mertesacker and David De Gea Stand-Out In Drab Draw

The player ratings from the Emirates following Arsenal’s stalemate against Man United.

Wojciech Szczesny – 7

Pulled off wonderful save from Robin Van Persie to keep Man United at bay.

Bacary Sagna – 6

Sedate display, not much of note.

Per Mertesacker – 8

A towering display and a return to his best following the Liverpool debacle.

Laurent Koscielny – 7

Solid and never flustered, typical display from the Frenchman.

Kieran Gibbs – 7

Got forward a great deal, rarely in trouble on the back foot.

Mikel Arteta – 6

Broke up play when necessary but was anonymous for portions of the game.

Jack Wilshere – 6

A performance full of heart but lacked a killer instinct.

Mesut Ozil – 7

Measured display from the German who showed some nice touches and tried to get stuck in.

Santi Cazorla – 6

Pint sized Spaniard was found wanting, one/twos didn’t come off and far too often left waiting for the ball too long.

Tomas Rosicky – 6

The usually industrious midfielder rarely got going.

Olivier Giroud – 4

A very average display lacking any quality whatsoever.

Subs

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6

A couple of nice runs in and around the box after coming on for Rosicky.

Man United

David de Gea – 7

Spaniard pulled off a few saves where necessary.

Patrice Evra – 6

Got up and down well and his battle with compatriot Sagna was at times interesting.

Nemanja Vidic – 7

Serbian defended with passion, if perhaps lacking elegance and purpose.

Chris Smalling – 6

Solid enough alongside Vidic, was played out on the right in the second half.

Rafael – 7

Quite promising and attacking down the right wing before he landed on his head, was then subbed at half-time.

Tom Cleverley – 6

Bursts of activity but on the whole didn’t do a great deal.

Michael Carrick – 7

Tried to give his side direction and was one of the better players on show.

Luis Antonio Valencia – 6

Did little of note throughout, subbed late on.

Juan Mata – 6

A very quiet game from the Spaniard.

Wayne Rooney – 7

Would get 10/10 for shouting at the ref. Had some good spells but was used in a very deep lying attacking role.

Robin Van Persie – 5

Dutchman had two good chances and should have netted them both, did little else in the game.

Subs

Rio Ferdinand – 6

Solid alongside Vidic for the second half, switched off a little towards the end of the match.

Adnan Januzaj – 6

Nice dribbles but no end product.

Ashley Young – 6

Didn’t really have enough time to make an impact.
