Man United Set for £150m Spending Spree: Five Players Who Should be On Old Trafford Wish-List

Five players that David Moyes should sign this summer.

Ilkay Gundogan – Borussia Dortmund, £24m

The German international has been on the club’s radar for sometime, and even though he has spent the bulk of the season out with a back injury he remains a valuable commodity to the Germans and will still cost a substantial amount.

United need a midfield orchestrator to sit alongside Michael Carrick and learn from the old master whilst he still has something to offer. Carrick has seen several partners in the middle over the years yet none of them have managed to stick.

Gundogan’s signing would signal huge ambition from David Moyes, but he’ll have to beat Real Madrid to his services after they showed an interest too.

Jan Vertonghen – Tottenham Hotspur, £19m

The Belgian international oozes class and took to the Premier League with ease when he joined Spurs from Ajax in 2012.

He has also shown that he is a more than capable performer as a centre-back or on the left and his versatility may prove attractive to United, who desperately need new blood to replace Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra.

Vertonghen, though, has frequently expressed his discontent at being made to play at left-back, and if Moyes can convince him that he would be a regular starter in the middle then his chances of landing him would greatly improve.

Remy Cabella – Montpellier, £18m

The Frenchman has definitely caught the eye this season and United have been just one of a number of clubs to identify him as the future.

So often before have United seen false dawns when it comes to attack minded midfielders, but Cabella is a definite star in the making and no matter how much his club protest he looks certain to move on from the former Ligue 1 champions this summer.

Similar to fellow attackers Mesut Ozil and Oscar, the 23-year-old would bring a spark to their forward line and looks like a more quantifiable threat that any of those in his position that are already at Old Trafford.

Eliaquim Mangala – FC Porto, £23m

With Nemnaja Vidic departing and Rio Ferdinand likely to follow close behind, United will be in the hunt for some serious power in their back line.

However, that isn’t the French international’s only asset, he’s also blessed with raw pace and an indisputable talent for reading the game and snuffing out danger early on – making him a prime candidate to take over from the veteran duo.

He has, though, been linked with several of the club’s title rivals over the past few months and face some serious competition to land his signature, but with £150m backing them they may be able to offer him more money and an outstanding platform to hone his skills and continue his development into one of the world’s best defenders.

Luke Shaw – Southampton, £20m

While Patrice Evra has been a great player during his time at Old Trafford, there is no denying that at 33 his game is in decline, and with his contract up at the end of the season the time is right for him to move on to the last chapter of his career.

And with that in mind, Moyes will be on the lookout for someone to inject some fresh impetus onto the left side.

Shaw would represent somewhat of a upgrade too, with his rugged athleticism, comfort on the ball and tireless running he could quite easily make the left-back slot his own for the next 15 years if they can persuade the Saints to sell.
