Top Ten Gruesome Premier League Injuries

The ten worst injuries sustained in the Premier League.

10. Alfie Inge Haaland

The Norwegian midfielder was believed to have insulted Man United captain Roy Keane during his time at Leeds, and not being one to forget these kind of things Keano held onto that hatred with a burning passion and unleashed his own brand of retribution when the two sides met in the Manchester derby.

9. Luc Nilis

The Belgian veteran was coming to the end of his career, but at the same time was only at the beginning of his Aston Villa career. The week before he’d scored a truly wonderful goal against Chelsea only for his time to be up following this clash with Ipswich goalkeeper Richard Wright.

8. Alan Smith

The young striker had been expected to be one of the bight young hopes for the future when he broke through at Leeds. His transfer to United stirred some controversy, but he was never the same player after this horrific break in 2006.

7. Pedro Mendes

The Portuguese midfielder has his clock cleaned by the Man City defender in a brutal challenge involving the defender’s elbow being planted in his face at high speed.

6. Gary Mabbutt

The former Spurs skipper got well acquainted with John Fashanu’s elbow once and this was the result. He was forced to wear a protective mask for some weeks after.

5. Aaron Ramsey

One of the Welshman’s many long term injuries, and by far the worst. It may not have been intentional, but it was no less horrible and the reactions of his teammates will tell you just how bad it was.

4. Djibril Cisse

Considering how innocuous the challenge appeared, the result was most horrific. This was of course the first of two unfortunate leg breaks suffered by the French international.

3. Dave Busst

Unfortunately for the former Coventry man, he is best remembered for the horror injury that ended his career. Peter Schmeichel’s face will tell you exactly how bad an injury it was and rumour has it that Busst’s bone and blood had to be cleared off the pitch before the game could continue.

2. Petr Cech

Stephen Hunt was so eager to make an impression in his first ever Premier League appearance that he decided to slide in on Petr Chech’s head. The result was an agonising fractured skull and a long crawl back to fitness for the Czech international. He still wears a protective helmet to this day.

1. Eduardo Da Silva

This was the game in which Arsenal’s last meaningful title challenge fell apart, but the game will be best remembered for this brutal injury that had Eduardo’s ankle looking like it was hanging by a thread.
