Manchester City VS Barcelona Combined XI: Lionel Messi Teams-Up With Countryman Sergio Aguero In Stunning Attack

Which players will make it into the ultimate starting XI of two of the most talented sides in world football?

In the most highly anticipated ties of the Champions League last-16 Manchester City take on four-time winners Barcelona over two legs for a place in the quarter-final.

Both clubs have squads bursting with talent, with the Catalans seeming to have an endless conveyor belt of proteges coming through and City boasting a chequebook that has no limits.

Here is a combined XI of the Citizens and Barca.

Goalkeeper – Victor Valdes: Surprisingly for two dominant sides their No.1s are not particularly inspiring, but for playing between the sticks for Barca for over a decade, Valdes gets the spot ahead of Joe Hart.

Right-back – Dani Alves: Again it was quite a tough decision as to who to give the position on the right side of defence to, but as good as Pablo Zabaleta is the Argentine is still short of the brilliant Alves.

Centre-back – Vincent Kompany: As good as the Catalans are their defence isn’t the greatest and Kompany would walk straight into their team – in fact the Belgian would walk straight into most teams.

Centre-back – Gerard Pique: Yet although Gerardo Martino’s men are leaky at the back, Pique is still one of the best defenders on the planet and alongside Kompany would be a formidable force.

Left-back – Aleksandar Kolarov: This was tricky and many may raise an eyebrow at the inclusion of the Serbian, but of the four choices (Adriano, Jordi Alba and Gael Clichy as well) Kolarov has been the most consistent.

Defensive midfield – Yaya Toure: Now things start to get really difficult and as many may have noticed, Cesc Fabregas, Fernandinho and Xavi have all missed out, as currently Toure is arguably the best box-to-box midfielder in world football.

Centre midfield – Andres Iniesta: There was no way this talented Spaniard could be overlooked, as in a team dominated by a certain Argentine, the 29-year-old has arguably been a much more important player.

Attacking midfield – David Silva: Admittedly the balance of this team is somewhat askew towards attack, but with so much talent on offer it almost had to be and Silva is nearly in Iniesta’s class.

Right forward – Lionel Messi: To get all the desired stars into the team Messi had to be moved out to the right, where the four-time Ballon d’Or winner is more than capable of playing.

Centre-forward – Sergio Aguero: Another Argentina international now and one of a quartet of players at the Etihad Stadium who can genuinely be described as world-class.

Left forward – Neymar: To complete the starting XI it’s the youngest member by some way, but at 22-years-0ld the Brazil international is already one of the best forwards playing the game.
