However, Bale has confounded his critics by not only finding the back of the net on nine occasions in his 16 La Liga outings for his new team to date, but by also being responsible for a further 10 other goals for his Madrid team-mates too, which is quite some feat.

4) Steven Gerrard (Liverpool): 10 assists

What a campaign the experienced England international is enjoying on Merseyside under the astute management of Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, with the Northern Irishman having taken the decision to drop his skipper back to now play as a defensive midfielder at Anfield.

And with quite some impressive results too, with the 33-year-old having not only managed to be on target on seven occasions so far in the Premier League, but the inspirational skipper has also created an eye-catching ten goals for Reds team-mates in just his 22 league outings in this campaign.

 3) Koke (Atletico de Madrid): 10 assists

The young Spaniard is currently one of the most in-demand midfielders plying their trade on the Continent after a dynamic first half of the season for the high-flying La Liga oufit under manager Diego Simeone.

In fact, with ten assists already in total from Koke in his 23 league matches for Atleti, as well as four strikes too in the Spanish capital, you can see just why some of the Continent’s biggest name clubs are so keen to lure the the Spain international away from the Vincente Calderon come the end of the campaign.

2) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United): 11 assists

The English front man’s primary responsibility for the Premier League champions is to put the ball in the back of the net, which the 28-year-old has once again managed to do with great regularity under new Red Devils head coach David Moyes so far in this campaign.

In fact, Rooney has managed to net on nine occasions in his 21 league encounters for United to date, but the striker has also been the provider of a further 11 goals for colleagues at Old Trafford, demonstrating the unselfish nature of the player.

1) Cesc Fabregas (FC Barcelona): 17 assists

In only 23 La Liga games so far this season, the midfielder has somehow managed to create 17 goals on a plate for his Barca team-mates, which are sensational attacking numbers indeed from the former Arsenal skipper.

And when you throw in the 26-year-old’s eight league goals as well, then you can see just why Premier League champions Manchester United may such a huge play to go all out to lure the playmaker away from Camp Nou and back to the English top flight last summer.

However, if the twinkle-toed Spaniard continues on in this same adventurous and attacking form between now and the end of the campaign, then goodness only knows just how many assists that Fabregas will have to his name.
