Manchester United Player Ratings Vs Olympiakos: Entire Team Scores Horrifically

United are completely shocking as they fall to Champions League defeat…

Here’s how we’ve rated the United side, after they lost 2-0 to Olympiakos in the Champions League Last 16 yesterday evening…

David de Gea – 5

Wasn’t at fault for the deflected opener, and there was little he could do about Joel Campbell’s excellent curling second, either. The keeper’s actually one of United’s consistently better players at the moment, which says a lot.

Chris Smalling – 3

The Englishman had an awful evening in Greece. He rarely ventured forward, but was defensively susceptible at the back, too. To make matters worse, his passing was diabolical, and he slipped over embarrassingly regularly.

Patrice Evra – 5

Looked visibly frustrated that his teammates couldn’t keep the ball in midfield. Regularly offered himself up the left flank, but was rarely supplied the ball when he overlapped his hopeless wingers.

Rio Ferdinand – 3

Ferdinand’s pace is non-existent, but his decision making against Olympiakos was very, very poor. He played a suicidal ball across his back four early on, and throughout the match looked confused whether to drop deep or go to the ball.

Nemanja Vidic – 6

The best of a bad bunch. If it wasn’t for some important last ditch tackles from the Serbian (who’s leaving in the summer anyway), the score could have been even worse.

Michael Carrick – 4

The Englishman merely passed the ball sideways, and provided his side with no creativity whatsoever. After the match, he gave a completely uninspiring, unapologetic interview too, which would have further infuriated United fans.

Tom Cleverley – 3

Although fans have accepted Cleverley will not get forward and contribute to attack, they at least expect him to retain possession in the middle of the park. He couldn’t even do that against Olympiakos, and his touch and technique looked shoddy.

Antonio Valencia – 4

Valencia’s final ball was awful, and he looked completely bereft of ideas when given the ball out on the right. He was deservedly hauled off after the hour mark.

Ashley Young – 4

Like Valencia on the other wing, Young showed no thrust or spark up the left flank. He has the ability to cut in and shoot on his dangerous right foot, but this evening, he simply checked inside and passed the ball to a midfielder. Not what you need from a wide attacking player.

Robin van Persie – 3

Completed just the 13 passes all match, and was visibly fuming by his complete lack of service. He also missed a relatively easy chance late on to salvage something from the match late on, and complained to the media after the match that his teammates were ‘in his space’.

Wayne Rooney – 4

Normally, Rooney has avoided the criticism his teammates have received after poor performances this season, because of his excellent work-rate and flashes of brilliance. Tonight, he neither worked especially hard, or showed any of the ability a player earning £300k-per-week should do.

Subs:

Danny Welbeck – 5 – Didn’t do anything.

Shinji Kagawa – 6 – Rarely gave the ball away, but the players in front of him rarely made dangerous runs.
