Five Players Lucky To Get An England Callup Against Denmark

Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC)

The former Tottenham Hotspur front man’s inclusion is a reflection of England head coach Roy Hodgson’s dire shortage of high quality strikers, otherwise there is surely no way in the world that the 31-year-old would have earned his callup to the Three Lions squad for next week’s friendly international with Denmark at Wembley Stadium.

Defoe officially moves to Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Toronto FC on Friday, however, the attacker has barely kicked a ball in anger for the north London club in recent weeks after his new employers from across the Pond had agreed to loan the player back to Spurs until the MLS season restarts next month.

Either way, however, the pocket-sized attacker is an extremely lucky man to have been selected as one of Hodgson’s six marksmen who will be on show at the home of football next week just the solitary strike in the Premier League for the north Londoners all campaign long.
