Top 10 Shot Happy Premier League Players: Liverpool And Manchester United Forwards Amongst Top Shooting Stars

Anfield, Old Trafford and Etihad Stadium stars amongst most frequent shooters in the Premier League. Find out the top 10 here:

10) Wilfried Bony – Swansea City – 3.3 shots per game

The tall Ivorian has led the line impressively for the Swans, and bagged a reasonable ten goals during his debut season so far.

Bony’s aerial prowess and powerful shooting have been a major part of his success in his debut campaign, and in the absence of Swansea’s star player Michu through injury, Bony has had to step up to the plate.

9) Wayne Rooney – Manchester United – 3.3 shots per game

Rooney has played from deeper this term, but he still takes plenty of efforts on goal. He’s bagged ten so far, four of which have come from outside of the box.

Rooney has been a more creative player this term, with no Premier League player having provided more assists, but he also ranks amongst the Red Devils’ best goal threats

8) Robin van Persie – Manchester United – 3.3 shots per game

The Dutch forward has won the Golden Boot in consecutive seasons, but has been less clinical for David Moyes’ side this term, partly due to injuries. It’s not for the want of trying though, as his 3.3 shots per game shows.

Van Persie’s candid interview after Manchester United lost to Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League revealed a great deal – perhaps if he was allowed to play his natural game, the goals would once again start to flow.

7) Yohan Cabaye – Newcastle United – 3.3 shots per game

The Frenchman moved to PSG in January for a big fee, but was comfortably Newcastle’s best player during the first half of the season. His 3.3 shots per game led to seven goals, four of which came from outside the box.

The Magpies’ form since Cabaye left St James’ Park is a cause for concern, with no goals scored in seven of their last nine Premier League matches, but Loic Remy at least took the game by the scruff of the neck to score the only goal against Aston Villa.

6) Edin Dzeko – Manchester City – 3.4 shots per game

The Bosnian striker struggles for game time under Manuel Pellegrini, but has managed seven goals during 13 starts and seven substitute appearances.

In his last five Premier League games Dzeko has taken 25 shots, and has only managed to get three on target – scoring with none. Perhaps he needs to choose his moment better if he is to increase that efficiency.

5) Coutinho – Liverpool – 3.4 shots per game

If there’s one area the Brazilian could improve, it’s his finishing. Despite taking 3.4 shots per game, he’s only scored three goals all season.

Still, perhaps Brendan Rodgers has moved Coutinho into central midfield in order to get the best out of the team, with Raheem Sterling’s increased threat on the wing allowing the Brazilian to drop deeper.

4) Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool – 3.5 shots per game

Sturridge is lethal in front of goal, and the Englishman has bagged an extremely impressive 18 goals in just 18 Premier League starts this term.

Astonishingly, Sturridge has only failed to score in three top flight fixtures all season. While he may hit plenty of shots, it is clearly paying off.

3) Loic Remy – Newcastle – 3.5 shots per game

Remy is Newcastle’s top scorer with 12 goals so far, and the Toon will be desperate to keep hold of him beyond the end of his loan deal.

The bad news for the Magpies is that his prowess in front of goal could well raise his asking price beyond what they can afford.

2) Sergio Aguero – Manchester City – 4.1 shots per game

Aguero would no doubt be rivalling Suarez for the Golden Boot had he not missed so much of the season with injury.

In 15 starts, he’s scored 15 goals and has the best goal/minute ratio of any player in Europe.

Aguero’s partnership with Alvaro Negredo proved extremely prolific in the opening months of the season, and the Argentine’s tactical discipline in dropping back into midfield when out of possession ensures that Man City are not outnumbered in the middle of the park.

1) Luis Suarez – Liverpool – 5.6 shots per game

The league’s top scorer takes more shots on goal than any other player. Despite being somewhat out of form – Suarez has only scored once in his last eight matches – but still boasts over a goal a game this term, and leads the Premier League top scorers list by five strikes.

If there is one criticism of Suarez, it is that he has failed to score in the big games. Of all teams in the top half of the table, Suarez has only found the back of the net in games against Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and West Ham United.
