Former Goodison Park boss David Moyes wants to bring in the England international to strengthen his defence though targeting the 31 year old doesn’t appear to be a long term strategy for replacing veterans Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, both of whom will see their contracts expire in the summer.

Jagielka is into his seventh season at Everton and though the former Sheffield United man has three years left to run on his Toffees contract the experienced defender may be tempted to reunite with his former boss.

One would’ve imagined Moyes would’ve adopted a more youthful approach to dealing with the loss of two big name defensive stars but perhaps the Scot feels that Jagielka has the ability to immediately fill the void next term.

Jagielka has made 243 appearances for Everton since his £4m move to the Merseyside club back in July 2007.
