Three In:

Ilkay Gundogan – Borussia Dortmund

The German international may have spent the bulk of the season on the sidelines, but his esteem amongst Europe’s elite has not dropped one bit and he is still just as sought after as he ever was. The midfield has been a key problem area for David Moyes this term and an overhaul is much in need and Gundogan would surely be one of the focal points should United manage to persuade Dortmund to part with him.

Jan Vertonghen – Tottenham Hotspur

With Nemanja Vidic already on his way and Rio Ferdinand likely to join him, United’s need for defensive cover will undoubtedly become a priority as they seek to replace the experienced duo. Vertonghen has been established as one of the Premier League’s finest centre-backs, and can even fill in on the left (but don’t ask him too) and he has made noises about leaving the north London club at the end of the season. However, he wants Champions League football, so Moyes will need to outline an impressive strategy if he hopes to bring the Belgian on board.

Toni Kroos – Bayern Munich

United’s attacking midfield options have often let them down this term, and fresh options are needed if they are to make a meaningful challenge to get back to where they belong next year. Shinji Kagawa is obviously not going to cut it at Old Trafford, and United have already sounded out Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos as the ideal man to step into his shoes. However, Bayern are still undecided over whether they would be willing to let him move, which could threaten to drag a prospective move out.Out:

Ashley Young

Whilst at Aston Villa Young was one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in the country, and would frequently switch between terrorising full-backs on the wing to creating havoc in the middle. It’s no wonder that the club splashed out £18m on his signature. However, United fans must bee wondering what happened to that version of Young as he has spent the bulk of his time at the club either on the bench of practicing his diving skills and earning himself, and the club, some negative press in the process. As he approaches 30 it is unlikely that he will improve much, sell him now.

Nani

Unlike Young, Nani has actually been quite good in a United shirt with the exception if the past two seasons. The Portuguese international no longer looks interested and the time to move him on may have been last summer when the club would probably have commended slightly more for him the that they will this time around. Moving him on would be beneficial for everyone involved, as it would allow him to kickstart his career elsewhere whilst lining United’s pockets to reinvest in the squad.

Tom Cleverley

If United aren’t careful, then Cleverley could soon become the poster boy for a period of startling mediocrity which would only continue as both David Moyes and Roy Hodgson continue to persist on playing him. He showed genuine promise as a youngster but has looked distinctly average ever since and it has become quite apparent that he isn’t what the club need to carry them forward.
