Comparison And Analysis Of Premier League Top-Scorers With Liverpool Duo Leading The Way

Analysing the top highest scorers in the English top tier.

There have been some brilliant goal-scoring performances in the Premier League so far this season and the race for the Golden Boot is still on.

Here at CaughtOffside we’ve compared and contrasted the five highest scorers, with some help from our friends at Squawka.

Yaya Toure – Manchester City

Goals: 13.

Total shots: 44 (23 inside the area, 21 outside the area).

Shot accuracy: 51%.

The £30m arrival of defensive midfielder Fernandinho has given Toure a lease of life in front of goal and the Ivory Coast international is really doing well in attack.

It means that City have found another outlet for goals and it makes them more dangerous and unpredictable in offensive positions.

Loic Remy – Newcastle United

Goals: 13.

Total shots: 81 (47 inside the area, 34 outside the area).

Shot accuracy: 51%.

A slightly worse conversion rate than Toure, but not for lack of accuracy as the two players are neck and neck in terms of shot accuracy.

Joe Kinnear may have plenty of critics, but bringing in Remy on-loan from QPR was a brilliant piece of business, now all the Magpies need to do is make the move permanent.

Sergio Aguero – Manchester City

Goals: 15.

Total shots: 70 (62 inside the area, 8 outside the area).

Shot accuracy: 60%.

It’s clear where the little Argentine does his best work, with manager Manuel Pellegrini asking the 25-year-old to play more of a No.9 role than has been true in previous seasons.

This has done wonders for Aguero’s scoring form, with the only downside being that the South American is struggling to remain fit for consistent periods of time.

Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool

Goals: 18.

Total shots: 68 (47 inside the area, 21 outside the area).

Shot accuracy: 54%.

It’s one half of perhaps the most formidable striking partnership in world football currently, with Sturridge having just fallen short of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League scoring record.

Up until the 0-3 victory over Southampton on Saturday the England international had scored in nine previous league matches and has shown incredible consistency in front of goal this term.

Luis Suarez – Liverpool

Goals: 24.

Total shots: 127 (74 inside the area, 53 outside the area).

Shot accuracy: 55%.

Yet way out in front – in terms of goals and shots – is this talented Uruguayan, who in a Reds team that has really stepped up in 2013/14 is the leading star.

Suarez’s statistics show that the best way to get success is to just keep trying, with an incredible 127 shots this season which is relatively evenly split from inside and outside the area – showing that the 27-year-old has range as well.
