The mega-rich top-flight outfit have been chasing the 16-year-old starlet for some time now, and it had been widely assumed that the player would be moving to Eastlands this summer.
However, it now appears as though new City head coach Manuel Pellegrini will face still competition for Kongolo’s signature from the Mersyside outfit too, with it understood that officials from Anfield have even recently met with the Netherlands Under-16 international’s mother to discuss a possible move to the Reds next season.
And the holding midfielder has already made such an impression in the Netherlands that the 16-year-old has now been dubbed “the new Patrick Vieira” because of his likeness in playing style to the former Arsenal defensive midfielder.
Meanwhile, the player’s employers in Rotterdam are also said to be desperate to keep hold of their midfield starlet, so much so that the Eredivisie giants have even offered Kongolo three contracts to remain at De Kuip, all of which the Dutchman has rejected.
