Premier League Team Of The Week, With Liverpool’s Suarez & Chelsea’s Schurrle

Newcastle United and Stoke City stars also feature prominently…

GK) Simon Mignolet – Liverpool

The Belgian keeper kept a clean sheet at St. Mary’s, and made one especially important save in the first-half from Jay Rodriguez when the game was still in the balance.

DR) Mathieu Debuchy – Newcastle United

Typically barnstorming from the Frenchman. Got tirelessly up and down the right flank, and in this kind of form, we can see why Bayern Munich are apparently interested in his services.

DC) Ryan Shawcross – Stoke City

Heroic central defensive performance from Stoke’s skipper. Headed everything Arsenal sent into the box, and dealt expertly with the (limited) threat of Olivier Giroud and co.

DC) Michael Dawson – Tottenham

Brave performance from Dawson kept Spurs’ chances of a top four finish alive, for the time being at least. The defender made two very important tackles fairly late on as Cardiff pushed for a late equaliser.

DL) Erik Pieters – Stoke City

Dealt superbly with the likes of Lukas Podolski, Tomas Rosicky ans Santi Cazorla, who took it in turns to try and create chances down Pieters’ flank. The Dutchman also made countless interceptions, and was a key reason the Potters kept a vital clean sheet.

MC) Steven N’zonzi – Stoke City

N’zonzi could be leaving in the summer, but showed the Stoke crowd what they will be potentially missing next term with an outstanding combative display in the centre of the park.

MC) Steven Gerrard – Liverpool

Gerrard dropped deep enough to deal with the threat of Adam Lallana on Saturday, and sprayed the ball around the park effortlessly when he was in possession. He also made crucial blocks and interceptions with the game poised at 1-0.

MC) Mousa Sissoko – Newcastle United

When Sissoko’s playing well, he’s a frighteningly good player. Two goals, and a physically domineering performance from the rangy Frenchman against Hull. Shame his manager took the gloss of his performance by getting sent off for a headbutt!

AM/FC) Andre Schurrle – Chelsea

Obviously, Chelsea’s hat-trick hero makes the team of the week. The German hit three second-half goals in 17 minutes to secure his side the points, and put them one step closer to title glory.

AM/FC) Luis Suarez – Liverpool

One goal, one assist, and was fouled for Liverpool’s penalty. Suarez now tops both the goals and the assists chart in the Premier League, and is practically guaranteed to win the Player of the Year award.

FC) Christian Benteke – Aston Villa

Two goals in three minutes for the powerhouse Belgian helped Villa thrash fellow relegation candidates Norwich. Benteke’s now on nine for the season.
