Based solely on this season’s performances, this is how we’ve ranked and rated the Manchester United squad this term…

25) Anders Lindegaard – n/a

Hasn’t played a Premier League match this term.

24) Alexander Buttner – 3

The Dutchman’s barely had a sniff, but when he has featured, he’s been pretty dire.

23) Nani – 4

Injured for nearly the whole season, but hasn’t scored or assisted a goal in his eight league appearances.

22) Shinji Kagawa – 4

The Japanese playmaker is clearly not rated by David Moyes, who has only given him seven league starts. He hasn’t registered a goal or an assist in the top flight this term.

21) Ryan Giggs – 4

This feels pretty harsh for the 40-year-old legend who’s only been given six league starts, but it’s probably about time he hung up his boots.

20) Darren Fletcher – 4

Recently returned from his long term medical condition, and has struggled to get back to the pace of the Premier League.

19) Javier Hernandez – 5

The Mexican forward has not been given many opportunities up top, and to be fair, he’s scored two goals in just four starts. We reckon he’ll leave in the summer though.

18) Tom Cleverley – 5

Cleverley has probably been the United player criticised the most this season, and while he’s been pretty uninspiring, he’s not been as criminally bad as many have made out. We doubt he’ll be starting for United next term however.

17) Rio Ferdinand – 5

No longer an automatic starter, Ferdinand’s distinct lack of pace has made him a liability on too many occasions this season.

16) Marouane Fellaini – 5

The Belgian powerhouse has performed nothing like a £27m midfielder should, and lacks the technical or passing ability to slip teammates through on goal.

15) Antonio Valencia – 5

Valencia has been found out this season. He’s very one dimensional, and even when he does get past his left-back, his final delivery has been usually poor, and sometimes atrocious.

14) Ashley Young – 5

Another target for the social media trolls, Young has actually scored three times this term, although struggled to put in consistently good performances.

13) Chris Smalling – 5

The Englishman’s been used at both right-back and central defence for United, and while he’s struggled to offer much offensively from fullback, he’s been fairly effective in the middle.

12) Michael Carrick – 5

Carrick ticks over tempo in the centre of the park well, although sometimes United have desperately needed a midfielder capable of creating chances, which Carrick isn’t.

11) Rafael – 5

The Brazilian hasn’t let anyone down this season, although he’s failed to get forward and score or any assist any goals in his 13 Premier League starts.

10) Juan Mata – 6

The Spaniard’s done ‘ok’ since arriving at Old Trafford, without really pulling up any trees. He’s assisted three goals, but has occasionally been isolated out on the right wing.

9) Danny Welbeck – 6

Welbeck’s been pretty good for United when he’s been fit enough to start, scoring eight goals from just the 12 starts. His main job now will be to stay fit for the remainder of the season.

8) Phil Jones – 6

Another regular victim of injury, Jones’s versatility has been used by David Moyes, but it’s arguably not doing the youngster any favours.

7) Nemanja Vidic – 6

The Serbian is leaving at the end of the season when his contract expires, but has still made regular last-ditch tackles and blocks in an often changing United defence.

6) David de Gea – 7

The Spanish keeper has done well, making just the one high-profile gaffe, and making a number of impressive saves.

5) Patrice Evra – 7

Evra has consistently got up and down the left flank for United, and been one of their most committed and influential performers, although like Vidic, he’s leaving at the end of the season.

4) Jonny Evans – 7

When fit, Evans is United’s first-choice central defender now. He’s composed in possession, but also very effective in the air.

3) Robin van Persie – 7

Not as lethal as he has been in previous seasons, RVP has still notched 14 goals in all competitions – although he’s arguably failed to link up with Wayne Rooney as smoothly as he did last term.

2) Adnan Januzaj – 8

Barely anybody had heard of the Belgian wonderkid before this season, but the teenage prodigy has burst onto the scene under David Moyes. He’s technically exquisite, scoring three goals and has impressed everyone with his mazy dribbles.

1) Wayne Rooney – 8.5

Easily United’s best player this season, the Englishman was awarded a £300k-per-week contract in 2014. He’s scored ten in the league, and assisted nine, and is likely to take up the club captaincy next term when Vidic leaves.
