In our books, these have probably been the ten best players in the Premier League this season…

First up, we have the best of a very bad Manchester United bunch, Wayne Rooney!

10) Wayne Rooney – Manchester United

Just pipping Olivier Giroud to the no.10 spot is United’s Englishman, the current highest paid player in the country. Rooney’s scored ten, and assisted nine from his pivotal playmaker role for a United side who are now rank outsiders for a top four finish.

9) Sergio Aguero – Manchester City

No doubt the Argentine would be higher up this list if he hadn’t missed 12 Premier League matches so far with injury. Aguero’s scored 15 in his 15 starts, meaning he has the best goals/minute ratio of any striker in Europe!

8) Laurent Koscielny – Arsenal

Arsenal’s strength has been in their collective rather than any especially stand-out performers, but the French centre-back has been a linchpin at the back, forming an excellent partnership with Per Mertesacker, and carrying the ball out from defence effortlessly. He also has one of the best pass accuracy percentages (93.3%) in the country.

7) David Silva – Manchester City

No other player in European football has averaged more key passes per game (3.9) than City’s mercurial Spaniard. Silva’s intricate through-balls are a thing of joy, and have led to seven assists so far.

6) Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool

After failing to score against Southampton, Sturridge’s record of scoring in each of his last eight matches ended. The Englishman’s formed a sensational partnership up top with Luis Suarez, and scored 18 goals so far.

5) Steven Gerrard – Liverpool

Liverpool’s skipper has been adapted into a holding midfielder this season, and he’s steadily improved in the position all term. His passing from deep has been sublime, as have his regular blocks and interceptions from deep. Most impressive though has been his set-piece delivery, which has led to nine goals.

4) Yaya Toure – Manchester City

The Ivorian powerhouse has been sensational in City’s midfield, completing more passes than any player in the country, and getting forward to score 13 goals so far.

3) John Terry – Chelsea

Terry’s comfortably been the best defender in the country for the side with the league’s best defensive record. Chelsea top the table, having only conceded 22 goals all season. Terry’s also scored two himself, and barely put a foot wrong at the back.

2) Eden Hazard – Chelsea

Is there a more exciting dribbler in world football right now than Chelsea’s flying Belgian? Hazard is exceptional when running with the ball down the left, and by cutting in on his right boot, he’s scored 12 and assisted six so far. At just 23-years-old, he’s bound to get even better.

1) Luis Suarez – Liverpool

If ever a player was a nailed on certainty to win the Premier League Player of the Year award, it’s Suarez. The Uruguayan tops both the goals and assists charts with 24 and 10 respectively, which has fired the Reds into 2nd place in the table at the time of writing. On current form, there’s arguably no better player in the world.
