The Top-Scoring Englishmen In The Premier League including Liverpool And Manchester United Stars

The highest scoring English players ahead of the World Cup.

England are preparing to take on Denmark in the last international friendly before manager Roy Hodgson names his 23-man squad to go to the World Cup in Brazil.

There have been some fine English performances in the Premier League this season and to help out Hodgson here are the top scoring players from the nation.

10=. Raheem Sterling – Liverpool, 6 goals

It’s been a fine season for the winger under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers and the 19-year-old seems to grow in confidence and maturity every game he plays.

10=. Steve Sidwell – Fulham, 6 goals

Not the usual name people would expect to see on a high scoring list as Sidwell is better known for defensive grit, but two fines strikes against Crystal Palace and Manchester United have certainly been memorable.

10=. Peter Crouch – Stoke City, 6 goals

A generally consistent presence upfront, as although Crouch is rarely prolific the Potteries striker is a useful addition in attack.

10=. Carlton Cole – Wets Ham United, 6 goals

Was released by the Hammers last summer before being re-signed after not finding a club and the forward has actually been a useful addition with the persistent injuries to Andy Carroll.

7=. Kevin Nolan – West Ham United, 7 goals

February was a brilliant month for the midfielder as Nolan scored five goals in three games and continued his contribution in attack despite advancing years.

7=. Adam Lallana – Southampton, 7 goals

The attacking midfielder has emerged as a real top-class talent since the Saints returned to the top tier in 2012 and should be going to the World Cup.

7=. Adam Johnson – Sunderland, 7 goals

Whilst February was Nolan’s month, January most certainly belonged to Johnson as the winger’s form in front of goal brought many to ask for an international recall for the 26-year-old.

4=. Danny Welbeck – Manchester United, 8 goals

It’s very easy to be down on the Red Devils this term and many of their players have been poor, but David Moyes needs to look at the positives – such as the improved scoring form of Welbeck.

4=. Rickie Lambert – Southampton, 8 goals

Under Mauricio Pochettino the south coast club have become recognised as a top 10 team and Lambert has been the tale of coming good late on and at 31-years-old the striker is beginning an international career.

4=. Steven Gerrard – Liverpool, 8 goals

Despite being 33-years-old and having had a career full of successes, this could arguably have been Gerrard’s best campaign at Anfield as the Reds look certain to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2009.

2=. Wayne Rooney – Manchester United, 10 goals

As is the case with Welbeck, Rooney has been a shining light for United in a season with few positives and will be expected to do the same for the national team.

2=. Jay Rodriguez – Southampton, 10 goals

Making up the third of the trio from St Mary’s in this list and despite having a poor debut for the Three Lions, could well be on the plane to Brazil.

1. Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool, 18 goals

Yet way out in front is one half of the formidable ‘SAS’ strike partnership at Anfield and Sturridge has a goal tally made even more impressive when it’s considered the striker has only made 20 league appearances.
