Manchester United Probable XI V West Brom: Mata Back In The Side

What side will Moyes select in this must win fixture?

If United are to harbour any hopes of a top four finish, they must win today…

GK) David de Gea

One of the few bright sparks of United’s season, de Gea will start between the sticks at the Hawthorns – desperate for a consecutive Premier League clean sheet.

DR) Chris Smalling

Brazilian Rafael is still rated as doubtful, meaning Smalling could continue to deputise on the right of the back four in his absence.

DC) Nemanja Vidic

The Serbian centre-half is joining Inter Milan in the summer, but is still United’s captain and first-choice defender until then. With Jonny Evans and Phil Jones rated as doubtful, Vidic will be even more important.

DC) Rio Ferdinand

The veteran Englishman was awful in the Champions League defeat to Olympiakos last time out, and Moyes will probably select Phil Jones ahead of him if the 21-year-old can prove any degree of fitness.

DL) Patrice Evra

Evra always starts on the left of United’s defence, and barring late injury, today will be no different.

We expect Fellaini to be given the nod ahead of Tom Cleverley, with the public criticism the Englishman has recently received. Away from home, Moyes will hope Fellaini can use his physical qualities to assert pressure on the Baggies.

MC) Michael Carrick

Carrick’s been criticised too of late, but is an integral part of United’s side due to his ability to keep possession in the middle of the park. Moyes will hope some of his teammates can take on the creative burden, however.

AMR) Juan Mata

Mata missed out against Olympiakos because he was cup-tied, but he will no doubt return to the side after being voted United’s Player of the Month for February.

AML) Adnan Januzaj

We expect the Belgian wonderkid to replace Ashley Young, who was woeful in the Champions League in Greece.

AMFC) Wayne Rooney

The £300k-per-week man proved his quality against Crystal Palace in United’s last league fixture, and will hope to get on the score sheet again.

FC) Robin van Persie

RVP’s notched 11 in the Premier League so far, but his partnership with Rooney hasn’t been as fluid as last season. Moyes will be desperate for the two of them to gel once again.
