The 10 Worst Premier League Signings This Season Including Liverpool And Tottenham Flops

Who has been the biggest disappointment since changing clubs?

Signing new players is one the most exciting things that can happen to a football club, but it also turn out to be a (often very expensive) mistake.

Here are the 10 worst signings made by Premier League clubs this season.

10. Nacer Chadli – Tottenham Hotspur

Arrived with a lot of expectation from FC Twente as a £7m acquisition in Spurs’ summer of spending,  but for a winger is surprisingly poor at crossing and has been outshone by Andros Townsend.

9. Barry Bannan – Crystal Palace

For £2m the Scot was hardly a hugely expensive mistake, but the midfielder brings very little to the team, with poor defensive contribution and also a lack of potency in attack.

8. Simon Mignolet – Liverpool

Those who questioned Brendan Rodgers’ decision to replace Pepe Reina with the £9m Mignolet are now being proven right as the Belgian looks decidedly average – helped by the fact that the Reds are so good in attack.

7. Roberto Soldado – Tottenham Hotspur

It seems somewhat harsh to kick a man when he’s down, but considering Soldado cost £26m and has scored just one league goal from open play and national counterpart Alvaro Negredo cost Manchester City £6m less, Tottenham got the raw deal.

6. Jozy Altidore – Sunderland

Having been an infamous flop with Hull City previously, many feared a repeat when the American joined the Black Cats for £8.5m and as Alfonso Alves proved at Middlesbrough, success in the Eredivisie does not necessarily convert to England. Altidore has scored once in the league.

5. Victor Moses – Liverpool

So much was expected of this young Nigerian, having been brilliant at Palace and then showing glimpses of something greater at Chelsea, but now on-loan at Anfield has failed to impress in a team doing very well without him.

4. Razvan Rat – West Ham United

Many could be forgiven for having missed the Romania international, as Rat lasted six months with the Hammers before leaving for Rayo Vallecano in the January transfer window.

3. Johan Elmander – Norwich City

Was previously a useful asset for Bolton Wanderers, but since the Canaries were moved to bring the Swede in on-loan from Galatasaray the 32-year-old striker has managed the grand total of no goals.

2. Danny Graham – Hull City

For some reason a few good displays for Swansea City saw Sunderland pay £5m for Graham in January 2013, where the striker failed to score once and has been similar since going on-loan to the KC Stadium. Will be back in the Championship very soon.

1. Ricky van Wolfswinkel – Norwich City

There is a talented player in there somewhere but an ill fated time at Carrow Road so far has set the Dutchman’s career right back, with one goal following a club record £8.5m transfer from Sporting Lisbon, with van Wolfswinkel looking utterly lost in English football.
