Ranking Liverpool’s Most Exciting Summer Transfer Targets from 10-1, Including Arsenal Defender and Spanish Sensation

Real Madrid and Arsenal stars feature!

Here’s how CaughtOffside ranks Liverpool’s ten most recent transfer targets, in terms of how exciting their capture will be to fans!

10) Viktor Fischer – Ajax – (The Metro)

The Danish wonderkid has fallen out of favour in Holland recently, but at 19-years-old, is still one of the most promising young wide men in Europe. He is an outstanding dribbler, and can shoot off either foot.

9) Roberto Firmino – Hoffenheim – (The Mirror)

Probably the least well known well name on this list, Firmino has excelled in the Bundesliga this term, scoring and creating goals for Hoffenheim. In the top flight alone, he’s assisted eight and scored twelve, and he’s not even been playing as a central striker.

8) Martin Hinteregger – Red Bull Salzburg – (The Guardian)

The Austrian centre-half has emerged as one of Liverpool’s priority options following a difficult defensive season. At just 21-years-old, he’s earned two international caps, and has the technical ability to thrive in the Premier League.

7) Thomas Vermaelen – Arsenal – (the Daily Mail)

Vermaelen can’t get a sniff at Arsenal right now, due to the excellent partnership of Per Merstesacker and Laurent Koscielny. The Belgian though has proven his top flight ability before however, and Liverpool could rejuvenate his career with a summer bid come the end of the season.

6) Ashley Cole – Chelsea – (The Metro)

Although he’s lost his place in the Chelsea side to Cesar Azpilicueta, and Leighton Baines is now England’s first choice left-back – Ashley Cole is synonymous with class. Chelsea’s fullback is available on a free in the summer, and if Liverpool are happy to meet his wage demands, they could shore up a problem position.

5) Victor Valdes – Barcelona – (The Metro)

Granted, Simon Mignolet has been ‘ok’ for the Reds. But in Victor Valdes, there’s a keeper who’s won everything he could at club level, and provides the experience needed for a club with genuine title ambitions.

4) Bacary Sagna – Arsenal – (The Metro)

Sagna is comfortably one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League. Bizarrely, Arsenal won’t meet his contract demands, meaning he’s available on a free this summer. Liverpool will do well to take advantage of the situation.

3) Yevhen Konoplyanka – Dnirpo –  (The Metro)

The Ukrainian flyer almost joined in January, but a £15m transfer couldn’t be completed. He’s a superb dribbler, and from the left, can cut in and shoot on his dangerous right boot. Spurs are interested, and Liverpool surely won’t want to miss out on another player to their top four rivals.

2) Jan Vertonghen – Tottenham – (Daily Mail)

The signing of the Belgian could genuinely transform the Reds into title contenders. He’s unarguably one of the top flight’s best centre-backs, but has stated that he wants to be playing Champions League football next term. With Spurs trailing Liverpool, a sizeable offer will undoubtedly tempt the player…

1) Isco – Real Madrid – (The Guardian)

This one seems pretty unrealistic, but various newspapers have reported Isco’s potential move to Liverpool. The Spanish playmaker is exceptionally talented, but struggled to get in the side behind Karim Benzerma, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. It’s unlikely Madrid would want to sell, but the fact Isco is even a target shows Liverpool’s ambitions.
