Top Five Grumpiest Footballers in the World: the Moodiest Players on the Planet

The five moodiest players on the planet…strangely, they’re all rather good!

You’d think most professional footballers would appear happy – at least most of the time.

After all, they’re paid astronomical sums of money to play the game they love.

But these five are constantly finding new ways of looking extremely sullen.

We count down the top five grumpiest players in the world:

5. Cristiano Ronaldo

He’s the best player on planet earth (and presumably the finest in our solar system too) and also the wealthiest, but the Real Madrid superstar is always finding something to complain about. Ronaldo has scored so many goals that they just don’t seem to excite him much any more.

4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The mercurial Swede loves himself but often appears to hate the world. When you constantly refer to yourself in the third person, it’s best to maintain a an aura of malevolence or people will quickly stop taking you seriously.

3. Jan Vertonghen

Vertonghen spends the majority of his time on the pitch looking livid – perhaps unsurprising given he plays beside Michael Dawson and Kyle Naughton. Even during mass team celebrations, the Belgian refuses to crack a smile.

2. Nicolas Anelka

You don’t get nicknamed ‘Le Sulk’ for nothing… Anelka has played for some of the world’s biggest clubs (and West Brom) but no-one has been able to cheer him up yet. The French striker’s favourite celebration is a Gallic shrug.

1. Dimitar Berbatov

Even after scoring, the Bulgarian typically looks like a man who’s just been told his dog has died. That’s him above, attempting to crack a smile after joining new club Monaco in January. Berba is often mistakenly labelled as ‘cool’ or ‘suave’ but we know the truth – he’s just a miserable git!
