Manchester City Player Ratings From Engrossing Champions League Clash With Barcelona

City fail to come away from the Nou Camp with the desired result.

It was a plucky display from Manchester City in their Champions League last-16 second-leg with Barcelona, but in the end the two goal deficit from the first-leg was too much to turn around.

Lionel Messi put the hosts ahead late on to make it 3-0 on aggregate, before Pablo Zabaleta was sent off, Vincent Kompany secured an equaliser and then Dani Alves scored to settle things.

Here’s how the City stars rated at the Nou Camp:

Joe Hart – 6

Not a bad game from the England international at all, who made some sharp saves to deny Xavi and Cesc Fabregas and could do nothing about either of the goals.

Pablo Zabaleta – 5

Managed to keep tabs on Jordi Alba’s overlapping runs in the first half, but went to pot after the break and was sent off for dissent to round off a poor evening.

Vincent Kompany – 7

The sort of performance that defines the Citizens captain as a world-class performer, throwing himself into every tackle and even grabbing a goal late on.

Joleon Lescott – 5

A fairly woeful night for the Englishman, who could easily have been penalised for two penalties and failed to track Messi all night.

Aleksandar Kolarov – 6

Was City’s main threat going forward and sent in some decent crosses into the box, as well as doing relatively well against Neymar in defence.

Fernandinho – 7

Another fine display from the Brazilian, who was seemingly everywhere on the pitch, winning balls in the middle and then even clearing it off the line at one point.

James Milner – 6

As expected the England international worked tirelessly up and down the left flank, but snapped at the chances he did have and perhaps could have done more.

Samir Nasri – 6

Was always in and around the penalty area and managed to force Victor Valdes into a few saves.

Yaya Toure – 7

As the cliche goes physicality doesn’t go down well in the Champions League and although Toure was called up on it, this was a fine display from the Ivory Coast international against his former team.

David Silva – 6

Pretty quiet stuff from the Spaniard, who needed to perform better in this game really although did lay on a great chance for Nasri with a classy back-heel.

Sergio Aguero – 5

Was pretty quiet in the first-half – which later turned out to be because of a hamstring injury – and struggled to shake the attention of Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano.

Substitutions:

Edin Dzeko – 7

Made a big impact after replacing Aguero at the break, getting some decent efforts on goal and should have been awarded a penalty after Pique brought the striker down.

Alvaro Negred0

Came on late along with Jesus Navas to rest some of the City players’ legs and made little impact.
