CaughtOffside has looked to all corners of the globe to see ten of the best superstars plying their trade outside of Europe…

There’s some serious talent in this list!

Ganso – Sao Paulo

The Brazilian playmaker is now 24, but has strangely still not left his home country despite winning eight caps for Brazil, and previously forming an exceptional creative partnership with Neymar when the superstar was still at Santos.

Jermain Defoe – Toronto FC

Defoe recently ended his 15 year tenure in English football to join Canadian based MLS club Toronto. He scored 220 goals, and bagged 19 for his country, too.

Thierry Henry – New York Red Bulls

The legendary French striker has actually been with the MLS side for the past four years, and still has the capability to pull off moments of genius. Since his career in American began, he’s notched 42 goals.

Robbie Keane – LA Galaxy

The Irishman is still only 33, and has scored 47 goals for his MLS side. He was always rated as one of the best, cleverest finishers in the English top flight during his time here. He impressed most at Spurs, for whom he reached double figures in six different seasons.

Fred – Fluminense

It seems a waste of such exceptional finishing ability that Fred only played in Europe for Lyon for four seasons, in which time he scored 34 Ligue 1 goals. He’s prolific in his homeland however, and will lead the line for his country at this summer’s World Cup.

Asamoah Gyan -Al Ain

The 28-year-old plies his trade in the UAE, where he his paid an extortionate amount of money for his services. To be fair, he has scored 77 goals in 69 matches since leaving Sunderland in 2011!

Raul – Al Sadd

Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer, Spanish forward Raul has played in Qatar, where he is no doubt paid astronomically well! He’s only scored 14 times in two years, however.

Alex Pato – Sao Paulo

Pato is still only 24, and despite being rated as one of the world’s most promising players during his time at AC Milan, failed to truly make the grade in Europe. He’s reached double figures in international goals though, displaying his undeniable pedigree.

Juan Roman Riquelme – Boca Juniors

The legendary Argentine playmaker is one of the slowest, laziest players you’ll ever see on a football field – but my word can he pass! Riquelme’s exceptional technical ability means he can dictate tempo, and slide teammates through on goal with exceptional through-balls.

Ronaldinho – Atletico Mineiro

The two-time World Player of the Year, Ronaldinho still mesmerises crowds in his native Brazil with his ludicrous skill on the ball and his wonderful attacking flair. He carried his side through to a Copa Libertadores success last season, too, and has won the Champions League and the World Cup.
