Here’s the best Under-21 World XI we could comprise, featuring star players from around the globe…

GK) Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea – on loan at Atletico Madrid (21)

The Belgian keeper is already one of the world’s best, shining in La Liga during the last two-and-a-half seasons he has spent on loan in Spain. His huge frame helps him cover the entire goal, and only time will tell whether Chelsea cash in on him this summer or keep him to compete with Petr Cech.

DR) Mattia Di Sciglio – AC Milan (20)

Italy is famous for breeding exceptional defenders, and Di Sciglio looks like he’ll be joining a long line of legendary Milanese stoppers. He’s won nine caps for Italy already, thanks to his speed up the flank and technical ability.

DC) Raphaele Varane – Real Madrid (20)

Rated by many as the world’s best young defender, Varane looks set to star at the heart of Real Madrid’s defence for the next decade. He’s tall, quick, and remarkably composed in possession.

DC) Marquinhos – PSG (19)

The most expensive teenage defender in history, the young Brazilian joined PSG from Roma last summer, following an excellent debut season in Serie A.

DL) David Alaba – Bayern Munich (21)

Alaba is probably the best left-back in the world full stop. At just 21-years-old, he plays a key, barnstorming role up and down the left flank for the best club side on the planet.

MC) Paul Pogba – Juventus (20)

How Manchester United must regret letting Pogba leave three years ago. The Frenchman has everything required of a modern midfielder. He’s tall, strong and quick, but more importantly, is blessed with excellent vision and creative skills. He also has a thunderous shot from range and provides box-to-box energy for an entire 90 minutes.

MC) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Arsenal (20)

The Arsenal man can play out wide due to his pace, but his manager Arsene Wenger believes his long term future lies in the middle, because of his passing and ability to retain possession in tight areas. If he can fulfil his potential, he’ll be a key player for England for the foreseeable future.

AMR) Mario Gotze – Bayern Munich (21)

The second of two brilliant German playmakers on the list, Gotze has phenomenal technical ability in the final third. He can beat players and score goals, but prides himself on an ability to send teammates through on goal with slick through-balls or delicate chips.

AMC) Isco – Real Madrid (21)

Since his mega money move from Malaga last summer, Isco has showed glimpses of his undeniable talent at the Bernanbeu. In 18 La Liga and Champions League games, he’s scored an impressive nine goals, and assisted four more.

AML) Julian Draxler – Schalke (20)

Arsenal are after the exceptional young German, and could sign him for an astronomical fee this summer. Draxler is unselfish, and loves to make chances for his teammates. His dribbling ability and speed mean he can beat players down the left, but is more than capable of shining in a more central role, too.

FC) Romelu Lukaku – Chelsea – on loan at Everton (20)

Last term the Belgian powerhouse scored 17 Premier League goals, and he’s already notched 10 with Everton this time around. He easily has the ability to make it at Chelsea, and all that remains to be seen is whether Jose Mourinho will give him a proper chance next year.
