The Reds manager is already drawing up a shortlist of fresh young talent that he wants to bring to Anfield this summer, and CaughtOffside understands that he has placed the two Ajax youngsters at the top of his shopping list.

Veltman has already been attracting interest from the Premier League as Manchester United boss David Moyes has apparently already sent members of his scouting team over to the Amsterdam ArenA to check up on him as he continues to establish himself within their first team.

Having broke into the Ajax first team last season the 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength this term by making 26 appearances across all competitions and finding the net once.

Rodgers has been concerned with the performances of some of his defenders this term, and with either Daniel Agger or Martin Skrtel likely to make way this summer the manager is keen to bring in a player with potential to grow as well as someone capable of slotting into the first team on board to replace them.

And Rodgers has also been impressed with the performances of attacking midfielder Davy Klaassen and will also look to see about including him in any deal that cab be struck for Veltman.

Like Veltman, Klaassen made his way through the famed youth ranks at the Amsterdam club and broke through into the first team in 2011. However, it wasn’t until this season that he began to establish himself – finding a rich vein of form in the process by notching up nine goals in 26 appearances.

Rodgers has seen his midfield decimated by injuries at various points throughout the campaign and is eager to ensure that they don’t suffer the same fate next season.

Both players have recently made their first forays into the Dutch national side and are expected to have big future’s in the game. The Reds boss is known for giving young players a chance and believes that they education in the Ajax youth sides will stand them in good stead at being able to fall in line with his own footballing philosophy should they be allowed to link up with him.
