Man United are ready to call time on David Moyes’s reign as Old Trafford boss after the club’s 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool all but ended their hopes of a top four finish.

CaughtOffside understands that the club’s owners are increasingly concerned about the direction Man United are heading in under Moyes.

The Glazers had anticipated that life after Sir Alex Ferguson would be something of a challenge but the club’s continuing run of disastrous form has left Man United ready to sack Moyes barely nine months into his spell in charge.

The manner of Man United’s home defeat to rivals Liverpool has left Moyes’s future at the club hanging by a thread and failure to overcome the 2-0 deficit against Olympiakos in their Champions League fixture in midweek could well see the manager’s brief tenure come to an end.

The club’s senior players are said to have lost faith in Moyes and the frosty relationship between the manager and a number of individuals have served to heap more pressure on the 50 year old.

Man United have now suffered nine Premier League defeats and sit in seventh spot and crashed out to Swansea City and Sunderland in home fixtures in the FA Cup and Capital One Cup respectively.

The Glazers have already begun drawing up a list of possible replacements for Moyes with the likes of Dutch veteran Louis van Gaal and Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp heading the wish-list and an interim boss may be brought in to see out the current campaign.

Though sacking Moyes would set Man United back a fair sum in compensation, having handed the former Everton manager a six year contract, the cost to the club’s reputation and their standing in the game could prove all the more expensive if they do not act to replace the under-fire boss,
