Anfield side want Sporting Lisbon youngster.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has set his sights on in-form Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo according Football Direct News.
The 23 year old has been a key member of Leonardo Jardim’s side, who have mounted a genuine Primeira Liga challenge whilst conceding just 16 goals in 23 fixtures this term.
Rojo can play at centre-back or in the left full-back role and in both areas Liverpool could do with reinforcements and the Argentine international may well be tempted by a move to Anfield.
Cash-strapped Sporting Lisbon sold a host of talents last summer and may be forced to balance the books with more sales when the transfer window re-opens.
The left-back role has been something of a problem area for Rodgers this term with first choice Jose Enrique suffering a long term injury and loaned in Frenchman Aly Cissokho being a bit more miss than hit.
Youngster John Flanagan has impressed when used in the role but Rojo’s ability to fill in at centre-back makes him a very sensible target.
Rojo moved to Sporting Lisbon in 2011 and is a regular in Alejandro Sabella’s Argentine national team set-up and is likely to be part of his 2014 World Cup finals squad.
