GK: David de Gea

The young Spain international is one of the few players at Manchester United who can say he has performed up to his usual high standards so far in this campaign, so one can only imagine what type of mess the Premier League giants would be in right now were it not for the in-form shot stopper.

RB: Rafael

Despite the Brazilian’s slightly wayward display against Liverpool in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, when the full back could easily have been sent off after conceding a first-half penalty, Moyes has few other options other than to play the defender against the Greeks

CB: Phil Jones

Again, were it not for an untimely injury picked up by his England international team-mate Chris Smalling, there is every chance that that the former Blackburn Rovers central defender would have also been axed for Wednesday night’s hugely important encounter after a more than shaky display at the back against the Reds.

CB: Nemanja Vidic

Manager David Moyes will just be praying that his skipper is capable of producing one more great performance at the back for the Red Devils on Wednesday and that the experienced Serb does not have other new club Inter Milan on his mind instead.

LB: Patrice Evra

Again, similar to with Vidic, the France international will also be needed to roll back the years against the newly crowned Greek champions if the home team are to stand any chance whatsoever of making it through to the next r0und of Europe’s premier club competition.

RW: Luis Nani

With club-record signing Juan Mata cup tied against Olympiakos, Moyes must decide on whether to replace the Spaniard with either the mercurial Portugal international or Antonio Valencia, with the Scot likely to go with the former on the right wing.

CM: Michael Carrick

The home team will need as much big-game experience as is possible on Wednesday evening at the Theatre of Dreams if mission impossible is to become a reality, and there are few more experienced than the England international holding midfielder.

CM: Marouane Fellaini

Alongside Carrick in the centre of the park, by playing further forward in a more attacking role, will be United’s £27.5m summer purchase from Everton, and boy does the big-haired player need to make an impact for his new team soon

LW: Adnan Januzaj

One of his side’s few bright sparks in their 3-0 loss to arch-rivals Liverpool on the weekend and United will need more of the young wide man’s pace and energy if they are to unsettle the Greeks.

ST: Robin van Persie

The Netherlands international will be relied upon to score the goals to help see the Red Devils into the last eight on Wednesday, and if any player has the class and goal threat to bring about such a turnaround, then it is RVP.

ST: Wayne Rooney

You get the feeling that the Englishman is preparing himself for a big game against the Greeks at Old Trafford as he seeks to drag his side through into the next round.
