5. Toby Alderweireld – Atletico Madrid

Arsenal have been lucky with injuries at the back this season, as playing with just three is risky business when you’re challenging for the title. Furthermore, the Gunners are set to lose Bacary Sagna at the current rate and will need a new right-back too. The Belgian international can fill both of these roles and will be desperate for more playing time after being relegated to a bit part role in Spain after being so highly regarded whilst at Ajax.

4. Mario Mandzukic – Bayern Munich

The Croatian striker’s influence at Bayern will diminish this summer in the face of Robert Lewandowski’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund. That means that one of the most potent goalscorers in Europe will be available. With Wenger still in need of a prolific frontman to lead their title challenge a move for the 27-year-old could very much be on the cards. And with the promise of regular European football the north Londoners become an even more attractive prospect.

3. Lars Bender – Bayer Leverkusen

The Bundesliga is a hotbed of talent at the moment and the other Bender brother is just one of a number of names that is attracting admiring glances from across the world right now. Wenger may have brought Matthieu Flamini back to the club last summer, and has used Mikel Arteta to a attain a certain degree of success at the base of the midfield, but he is still lacking a top quality star to come in and make the position his ownn. Bender may cost the club a considerable amount of money, but he would undoubtedly be worth every penny.

2. Julian Draxler – Schalke

A player the club have been linked with for close to a year now, Draxler’s buy-out clause is £37m, and Wenger is still very much interested in making a concrete move for him this summer after missing out during the January transfer window. His goals and assists would be most welcome in what is already a solid attacking line, and his potential to be one of the best players in the world is sky high. A player Arsenal should sign whatever the cost.

1. Diego Costa – Atletico Madrid

Atletico have virtually resigned themselves to losing the striker this summer as his goalscoring exploits continue to earn him admirers in every division across Europe. Chelsea have been the club most recently linked with his signature, and Atleti have even intimated that they may be prepared to let him go for just £27m. If this is the case then Arsene Wenger should move to bring him on board as soon as possible.
