The game is set to be landmark occasion for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with the Frenchman set to celebrate his 1000th game in charge of the Gunners.

Wenger is something of a rarity in the cut-throat world of Premier League managers and his opposite number on Saturday, Jose Mourinho, admitted in the build up to the game that he would love to emulate the Frenchman.

“If Chelsea gives me the chance to arrive to 1,000 matches, I’ll be the happiest manager in the world,” he said.

While the accolades and tributes have been pouring in for Wenger, the 64 year old remains focused on ending the club’s nine year wait for a trophy.

While the FA Cup remains the most likely route to end that wait, the league remains the main objective especially with the Gunners just four points behind the leaders and with a game in hand.

If they are to achieve their objective, Arsenal will have to overcome a Chelsea side that has dropped just four points at home all season, in a 2-2 draw with WBA and a 0-0 draw with West Ham.

The club have already beaten Everton, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool at home this season and should they beat the Gunners they would lay down a marker for the final games of the season.

To do that they will have to win without Ramires and Willian both suspended after their sending offs against Aston Villa in the 1-0 loss last time out.

The Blues bounced back midweek by doing something that the Gunners failed to do, reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 3-1 aggregate win over Galatasaray.

David Luiz retuned to the squad for the clash with the Turkish side and he will hope to start this weekend while Ashley Cole remains a doubt with a knee injury.

Arsenal meanwhile will once again be without Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere al-hough Kim Kallstrom could finally make his long-awaited debut after finally overcoming a back injury.
