The forward, who can operate either in a central role of further out wide on the flanks, was shipped out on loan from the Italian side to former club Montpellier in the January transfer market and he has set his sights on returning to Milan to make a name for himself.

Arsenal had been keeping an eye on the 19-year-old for over a year, but Spurs technical director Franco Baldini had been working behind the scenes to bring the player to White Heart Lane this summer.

However, the Frenchman told Midilibre.fr: “I hope to stay in Montpellier. I love this club, it’s a family.
“When I signed in January I said that I wanted to play here at least another season and this statement is even more true today. I want to repay the faith this club had in me.”

Niang has already scored three goals in 11 appearances for Montpellier this term.
