How Man United Can Bank £98m from the Sale of Ten Unwanted Stars

10 players the Old Trafford side may well consider selling to help fund significant additions this summer.

Ashley Young – £14m

Former Aston Villa man has consistently failed to deliver since his arrival at Old Trafford and his chances to impress this term have been limited.

David Moyes has handed the 11 Premier League starts and could well look to cash-in on the 28 year old England international given the emergence of Adnan Januzaj and the continued improvement shown by Danny Welbeck, who can also be used in a wide-attacking role.

Tom Cleverley – £12m

Very much the scapegoat this term the level of abuse the England midfielder has suffered has perhaps been overblown but there’s no denying his lack of effectiveness this term.

David Moyes backed the 24 year old for much of the season but has been using him less and less as the campaign has worn on, time to sell, especially if reports of Everton’s interest are to be believed.

Anders Lindegaard – £3m

Back-up keeper is very much surplus to requirements and the Dane may well feel his career is stagnating at Old Trafford.

Lindegaard’s last Premier League start saw him conceded five during the crazy 5-5 draw with West Brom last May.

Bebe – £3m

Flop forward has actually impressed a great deal during his loan spell back in his native Portugal though it’s fairly certain he’ll never represent Man United again.

Paços de Ferreira may well be tempted to make his temporary move to the club a permanent one after seeing the 23 year old net ten goals this term.

Javier Hernandez – £15m

Mexican striker is wasting away on the Old Trafford bench, a proven Premier League goal-scorer who really deserves to secure regular first team football elsewhere.

Tottenham are said to be sniffing around the 25 year old, who’s goal-scoring record is impressive to say the least.

58 goals for Man United 145 appearances, of which 64 were from the bench, is an excellent strike-rate. Now behind Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in the striking pecking order.

Wilfried Zaha – £10m

For whatever reason, though definitely not due to any romantic involvement with his daughter, David Moyes doesn’t appear to rate the young winger.

Two sub appearances were all the 21 year old got to prove himself before he was loaned out to Cardiff City, sure to be on his way on a permanent basis.

Nani – £12m

Another unneeded winger and a player who has been on the peripheries at Man United for a number of years. The Portuguese international’s career is stuttering to say the least and a move away from the Premier League side this summer seems certain.

On his day Nani can still mix it with the best but a lack of consistency has left him nothing more than a bit-part player for Moyes to cash-in on. Juventus are said to be keen on the 27 year old.

Anderson – £8m

Brazilian struggled with his weight, with his fitness and a general lack of effective displays for the Man United first team before he was sent to Fiorentina.

The big money signing will hope to impress the Serie A side sufficiently to secure a permanent move but either way the move appears to be designed to act as a shop window for the 25 year old who cost Man United £20m back in 2007.

Alexander Buttner – £6m

All the talk of a likely Patrice Evra exit should have left some speculation open to the possibility of the Dutchman filling the likely void left by the French veteran, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

David Moyes has been actively pursuing Everton’s Leighton Baines and Southampton youngster Luke Shaw and despite his recent appearances Buttner seems destined to be heading for the Old Trafford exit.

Shinji Kagawa – £16m

Japanese international has seen a bit more action of late but is still very much a back-up performer and is often used out of position by overly conservative boss David Moyes.

There has been ongoing talk of a possible return to Borussia Dortmund and if that is the case then Man United will be looking to secure a big fee for the 25 year old.
