The Seven Players That Will Make Liverpool Great Again

The Anfield talents who could be part of a new era of domestic and European domination.

Liverpool are not only on the cusp of a first domestic title in over twenty years but under Brendan Rodgers’s assured management the Anfield side are well on the way to building something substantial with an era of success perhaps in view.

Here are the seven key talents who could make the Merseyside outfit great again.

Luis Suarez

The Uruguayan is arguably the best player on the planet right now with his unstoppable displays providing the spearhead for a Liverpool attack that simply can’t stop scoring.

The 27 year old had his fair share of problems in the opening seasons of his Anfield career and Liverpool doggedly stuck by the former Ajax man and for his part Suarez has returned that loyalty by penning a new lucrative contract that should keep the prolific marksman at the club in the long-term.

Suarez is much more than a lethal finisher, indeed not only does he lead the Premier League goal-scoring charts it’s worth noting that no player has provided more assists than the Liverpool forward.

A shot at Champions League football awaits Suarez and Rodgers should be in no doubt that the Liverpool ace is well equipped to do some serious damage in Europe’s premier league tournament.

Philippe Coutinho

Brazilian playmaker was stagnating at Inter Milan before Liverpool spent a bargain £8.5m to bring the youngster to Anfield and game by game Coutinho has proven that such an investment was one that will pay for itself many times over.

Coutinho is a quick thinking instinctive performer who perfectly links midfield and attack and though Rodgers would perhaps want the 21 year old to get on the score-sheet more often he can’t complain about the player’s excellent distribution.

Indeed on occasion his footballing brain can be ahead of the wavelength of some of his team-mates though in time the relationship between himself and those around him can only improve.

Raheem Sterling

Burst onto the scene last season until Brendan Rodgers intelligently held the England youngster back a tad to avoid an inevitable burn out.

This term the teenage winger has been more assured, more composed and ultimately more effective. Whereas previously he’d be wasteful in front of goal, perhaps too raw, the current campaign has seen Sterling interact better with those around him.

Whilst a move to use Sterling in a central attacking midfield role has also borne fruit the speedy youngster is still far better suited to a wide-role where his future certainly lies.

Steven Gerrard

Anfield skipper may be getting on a bit but his new withdrawn role may well buy him some time and the 33 year old should still have two or three seasons in the tank.

Gerrard has been in astounding form this term and over the past three months has arguably been at his very best. Whether it’s been with a 40 yard cross field ball pinged out wide, a set piece crashing into the back of the net or just calming the play in the centre of the park the Liverpool man has been the catalyst for the club’s consistent run of late.

Daniel Sturridge

England man has been unstoppable this term and the 24 year old will play a huge part in Liverpool’s attack in the next few seasons.

Deadly in the final third and the selfishness he possesses has perhaps been dulled of late as he’s formed a stunning partnership with Luis Suarez. The former Man City and Chelsea man has also begun to learn that sometimes less is more with his runs not being as aimless as they once were.

In a one on one situation Sturridge is perhaps one of the best in the business.

John Flanagan

Youngster got a fair bit of unfair criticism when he first broke into the Liverpool first team ranks but his performances of late have belied his age.

The attack minded 21 year old has the confidence to push forward and the speed to get back into position as and when necessary and it’s perhaps in the left-back role where his Liverpool future lies.

Stunning talent and one very much for the future.

Jordan Henderson

The former Sunderland man has done brilliantly well to recover from a very average start to his Liverpool career to become something of a pendulum in the Anfield midfield.

Henderson has been consistency personified and is a player Brendan Rodgers trusts implicitly to put his heart and soul into every performance.

Very much two midfielders in one the 23 year old has the range of passing to keep the ball moving both forwards or back and is not afraid to push forward to support the attack as and when the situation dictates.
