Man United to Conduct £200m Squad Overhaul: Quartet Targeted and Eight Established First Teamers Set for Exit

Old Trafford side set for busy summer of comings and goings.

Man United are set for a busy summer in the transfer window with David Moyes set to make the most of a massive £200m transfer war-chest with the Daily Telegraph outlining the plans the Scottish boss has made to improve his Old Trafford squad.

After the current campaign has come to a close, and a potentially disastrous one that could well lead to no Champions League football for next term, Moyes will look to chop and change in a big way.

This source cites as many as eight players who could well leave the club and earmarks moves for four top quality additions, perhaps unsurprisingly the lion’s share of which appear to be with a view to improving the club’s brittle and sub-standard midfield.

Toni Kroos (Bayern Munich)

The Bayern Munich was industrious, if not spectacular, last night during the encounter between the two sides and is still very much a key target for the Premier League side.

The 24 year old’s contract demands did see him benched at one point this term though he has been welcomed back into the fold and may well be ready to adjust his demands for financial parity with the Allianz Arena side’s big earners.

Moyes would love to bring in the German international, who is comfortable on the ball, tough in the tackle and always ready to spring to life in the final third with a killer pass or a long range effort.

Ilkay Gundogan (Borussia Dortmund)

Another quality central midfield option, albeit one that has been out all season with a back injury, and perhaps a more likely summer signing for Man United.

A tad more pedestrian than Kroos the Borussia Dortmund man is a more stable performer who could perhaps be seen as a combination of two players in one.

The 23 year old has a good passing range and has the strength to hold off a tackle though is perhaps not so effective as Kroos in opposition territory.

With Robert Lewandowski set to join Bayern Munich and Jurgen Klopp’s side a country mile behind their domestic rivals there is every chance Gundogan would jump at a move to Man United this summer but he must first prove his fitness and that may be the major obstacle.

William Carvalho (FC Porto)

Very much ‘The Next Big Thing’ the 21 year old Portuguese enforcer is a player who is all about breaking up the opposition advances. A no nonsense man mountain who can provide some real steel in the centre of the park and a player who Moyes could well do with.

Too often this term Man United have come up against sides who have gone through their midfield like butter and Moyes doesn’t possess an out and out defensive midfielder and the FC Porto starlet may be the man for the job.

The major obstacle to this job comes in the form of a reported £37.5m it would take to land the relatively inexperienced performer.

Luke Shaw (Southampton)

The 18 year old left-back is perhaps the ideal man to replace Patrice Evra and the teenager is arguably already capable, even in his tender years, to make that leap.

One of the latest off the St Mary’s production line, the Southampton youngster is calm and composed and rarely makes mistakes. Already capped at full national team level Shaw may well be part of Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup finals squad and if he is then his already sky high price-tag will get all that more heady.

It appears that Alexander Buttner is not being seen as a viable option to fill the void that will be left by Evra’s likely summer departure, Shaw looks likely to be Man United’s first choice target.

David Moyes is ready to offload a number of players to make way for new additions, leading the exodus will be captain Nemanja Vidic, who has already agreed a move to join Inter Milan when his contract expires in the summer.

Rio Ferdinand, Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernández, Wilfried Zaha, Nani and Anderson are all set to follow the Serbian to the Old Trafford exit.

Moyes will however not entertain the prospect of losing Dutch striker Robin Van Persie, despite constant speculation about a frosty relationship between the manager and the former Arsenal man.

Man United may well also be ready to give up attempts to tie 32 year old defender Patrice Evra to a new contract with a move back to Ligue 1 looking likely.
