Ten candidates for the Spurs job.

Sky Sports and various other sources including Goal.com claim Tim Sherwood will definitely be replaced as Spurs manager in the summer.

We look at ten possible replacements for the 45-year-old at White Hart Lane.

10. Chris Hughton

The former Newcastle boss is a free agent after being sacked by Norwich at the weekend. Hughton, 55, is a Spurs legend having spent a total of 23 years at the club as a player and coach. But his record at Norwich was poor and he is not a big enough name to appease the Spurs fans; a last resort.

9. Glenn Hoddle

‘Ghod’ is widely regarded as one of Spurs’ greatest ever players and has made no secret of his desire to return to the club for a second stint as manager. But after being overlooked in December, it seems highly unlikely Spurs will turn to the former England boss this summer, unless all other options go tits up.

8. Jurgen Klinsmann

The USA boss is a club legend and would be welcomed back with open arms by the supporters. But Klinsmann seems to have sweet life living in Los Angeles and there has been no suggestion he is keen for a return to club management at the moment; this is probably a non-starter.

7. Fabio Capello

Capello was a reported target for Tottenham in December before Sherwood was handed the job. The Italian knows Spurs sporting director Franco Baldini as well as anyone and has a superb track-record, barring his ill-fated spell in charge of England. But Capello recently signed a whopping new deal with Russia and, with Baldini’s own future uncertain, it looks unlikely he’ll return to England.

6. Michael Laudrup

The Dane was linked with the job following Andre Villas-Boas’ sacking but the 49-year-old insisted he was happy at Swansea. Awkwardly, Laudrup has since been sacked by the Jacks and is a free agent. He won many admirers during his 18 months in the Premier League for his passing football, which would please the Tottenham faithful. He’s reportedly difficult to work with though, which could prove an issue with Daniel Levy in charge.

5. Roberto Mancini

Former Man City boss Mancini is reportedly agitating for a move back to England from current club Galatasaray. The Italian has experience of managing in, and winning, the Premier League but his cautious tactics and hefty wage demands may put off Daniel Levy.

4. Luciano Spalletti

The Italian is a free agent after being sacked by Zenit St Petersburg where he was ironically replaced by Andre Villas-Boas. After doing a good job at Udinese and Roma, the 55-year-old lasted longer in Russia than any other Western manager, leading Zenit to back-to-back titles. A lack of English and Premier League experience are likely to count against him, however.

3. Frank de Boer

The Ajax boss claimed he rejected the chance to take the job in December but, with the Eredivisie title all but sewn up for a fourth consecutive season, his brother Ronald has since claimed he’s ‘ready’ to manage a big club in England. Lack of Premier League experience is a concern but he’s a winner, and knows Spurs stars Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen well.

2. Mauricio Pochettino

The Argentine has done a cracking job at Southampton since replacing Nigel Adkins last season, helping turn Jay Rodriguez, Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana into England internationals. The 42-year-old is stalling on signing a new deal at St Mary’s but would he have the experience to stand up to Daniel Levy?

1. Louis van Gaal

The fans choice. The legendary Dutchman has already admitted he turned down the chance to replace Andre Villas-Boas in December and will be a free agent after this summer’s World Cup. The 63-year-old has won it all with Ajax, Barceloa, Bayern Munich and AZ Alkmaar but there are concerns that he may be too outspoken and past his best.
