Man City’s English Exodus: Six Stars Set to Leave the Etihad This Summer

The majority of Man City’s English contingent is set to leave Eastlands this summer.

Joleon Lescott

Centre half Lescott was a key member of City’s title-winning squad but he has slipped down the pecking order this season and will leave the club in the summer. There should be no shortage of Premier League takers for the 31-year-old, who was linked with Tottenham and Liverpool in January.

Gareth Barry

The former England international has been a key player for Everton during a season-long loan at Goodison Park and could still help the Toffees win a shock Champions League place. The 31-year-old appears to have no future at City, however, and a permanent move this summer looks certain. Everton would dearly love to sign Barry but his wages could prove a stumbling block, while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer.

James Milner

The arrivals of Fernandinho and Jesus Navas at Eastlands have seen Milner demoted to squad player and the England international – a favourite of former boss Roberto Mancini – has only managed eight league starts under Manuel Pellegrini this season. City reportedly want to keep Milner, and could offer him a new deal, but the 28-year-old may decide it’s time to leave in search of first team football.

Jack Rodwell

Rodwell arrived at City from Everton with the potential to grow into England’s starting central midfielder. Two injury-hit seasons later, the 23-year-old has made just 14 league appearances for the Citizens – most from the bench – and is nowhere near the first team, let alone the England squad. He is likely to seek a fresh challenge in the summer, although a return to Goodison Park could also be an option.

Richard Wright

The third choice goalkeeper is out of contract in the summer, having made a grand total of 0 appearances for the club.

Micah Richards

The right back, 25, has reportedly rejected a new contract at City and will leave in the summer, with Liverpool and Newcastle interested in the £7m-rated England international. Richards has 13 caps for England and is the youngest defender to win a cap for the Three Lions. But he’s struggled to displace Pablo Zabaleta in the City side, making just 10 starts under Manuel Pellegrini.
