Here’s CaughtOffside’s ten worst Premier League signings this season…

10) Nicolas Anelka – West Brom

We know Anelka didn’t cost anything, but if a club is forced to sack a summer striker signing because he made a racist gesture, it’s fair to label his transfer a failure!

9) Tiago Ilori – Liverpool

Arriving for a £7m transfer fee, Ilori hasn’t been given a single minute of first-team football by Brendan Rodgers, and was shipped out on loan to Granada in January, where he’s barely featured either. What was the point?

8) Jozy Altidore – Sunderland

The American striker is awfully clumsy, and has managed to score just the once in 19 Premier League starts since his summer move from Holland.

7) Iago Aspas – Liverpool

Another flop Liverpool signing, Aspas cost upwards of £7m, and hasn’t scored a goal in the Premier League, or looked much like creating something either.

6) Pablo Osvaldo – Southampton

The Saints have enjoyed an excellent season, but this shouldn’t hide how bad a signing Osvaldo was. £15m for the Italian broke the club’s transfer record, but he was quickly shipped back to Italy on loan in January, where he’ll almost certainly sign permanently in the summer.

5) Ricky van Wolfswinkel – Norwich

The Dutchman arrived with a reputation as a clinical finisher, but he’s done his very best to completely tarnish that so far during his stay with the Canaries. He bagged on the opening day of the season, but hasn’t found the back of the net since!

4) Andreas Cornelius – Cardiff City

Before Gary Medel arrived, the £8m it took for Cardiff to sign Cornelius was a club record. The Danish forward was not given a single top flight start though, and was loaned back to Denmark in January. Big waste of money.

3) Roberto Soldado – Tottenham

Spurs shelled out a monstrous £26m for this Spanish striker who looked lethal in La Liga, but has been totally lacklustre in the Premier League. So far, he’s notched just two goals from open play.

2) Marouane Fellaini – Manchester United

Fellaini has looked anything but a United standard player since his £27m arrival last summer. The Belgian is powerful, but completely lacks the technical ability and creativity to improve United’s midfield, and the Old Trafford faithful know it. The team’s style simply doesn’t suit his kamikaze approach.

1) Erik Lamela – Tottenham

The definition of transfer flop. Lamela, a reportedly ludicrously talented Argentine, arrived at White Hart Lane for a mammoth £30m fee, but has barely even been able to get into the side. He’s made three Premier League starts, failing to score in any of them. If Spurs cut their losses on the playmaker this summer, they’re going to have to accept a massively reduced fee for his services.
