Daniel Levy is known for flogging the clubs stars for huge profits but the chairman must resist the temptation to sell these five if he wants Spurs to progress next season.

Sandro

The Brazilian’s public spat with Tim Sherwood has led to suggestions Sandro could seek a summer exit but Spurs must keep hold of the enforcer. With a proper pre-season under his belt, Sandro can return to the level he reached in the first half of last season, where he was as important to Spurs as Gareth Bale. The London outfit have plenty of talented attacking players like Eriksen, Lamela and Adebayor but they need a solid presence like Sandro to provide a base.

Jan Vertonghen

The sulky Belgian hasn’t reached the same heights as last season but it’s hardly surprising given he’s been playing alongside the likes Michael Dawson, Danny Rose and Kyle Naughton. Vertonghen is a classy and powerful centre half, who will want to be playing in the Champions League. But Spurs need a leader and consistent presence at the back and must resist the temptation to cash-in on the Belgium international.

Erik Lamela

After a dismal debut season in the Premier League, Spurs will surely be tempted to cash-in on Lloris if a Serie A club offers them their money back this summer. But despite his struggles, the Argentine remains a brilliant player capable of going to to greatness. Spurs must keep faith in the 21-year-old and give him opportunities to shine next season.

Hugo Lloris

The occasional rush of blood aside, Lloris is an brilliant goalkeeper capable of playing at the very highest level. The France captain has been making some worrying noises about the importance of Champions League football, however, and with mega-rich Ligue 1 giants PSG and AS Monaco both lacking a superstar between the sticks, it’s easy to understand why Spurs fans are worried. The club must not sell, however. Goalkeepers as good as Lloris don’t come around very often.

Christian Eriksen

The Dane’s set piece delivery is as good as it gets and his stats – seven goals and eight assists from just 22 Premier League appearances – show just how quality he’s been in his debut season in England. At 22, the playmaker is only going to get better and plenty of Champions League clubs would love to build a team around him. But Spurs must resist the temptation to sell and make Eriksen into the heartbeat of their team next season.
