Blues will definitely be signing a new forward next season either way.

Chelsea are set to switch their attentions away from deadly Atletico Madrid front man Diego Costa and towards prolific Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani this summer, according to reports in the Daily Express.

The west London club have been heavily linked with Atleti’s Brazil-born forward for some time now, with it expected that Costa would move to Stamford Bridge when the summer transfer window reopened in a deal worth £35m.

However, the word now coming out of Spain is that in actual fact, the Blues’ billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich has gone cold on the idea of landing the highly rated and newly capped Spain international next season and instead the oligarch would prefer to lure the Ligue 1 champions’ Uruguay international to west London.

Cavani would of course prove to be a far more expensive acquisition than Costa, with it expected that the mega-rich Parisians will demand a fee of £60m for the 27-year-old, who only moved to the Parc des Princes from Serie A outfit Napoli at the end of the previous campaign for a fee of about £52.7m.
